“PASKONG ICCian PARA SAYO”
– A Christmas Giving Gift Project by the Supreme Student Council
Ann Lucas Dindic BEED - IV
In my life I’ve learned that true happiness comes from giving. Helping others along the way makes you evaluate who you are. Being able to help is a privilege for us students for it teaches us how to become concerned to those who are in need, it helps us to understand the spirit of compassion and to share what we have to and take away the selfishness hidden deep within us. As part of the Supreme Student Council activity, we conducted a Gift Giving Program with the theme “Paskong ICCian Para Sanyo” at the ICC Covered Court, Mahayahay, Iligan City last December 16, 2018.
The program was organized by the Supreme Student Council with the collaboration of the College of Criminology, College of Education, College of Business Administration, College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Computer Science. We brought prizes and candies and we organized games for the youngsters to enjoy. We also prepared meals from Jollibee for them, including the Jollibee Mascot at the venue to the delight of all the kids. Aside from that, we gave them books, new slippers and toys. We worked as one for the success of the activity. The program started with a prayer and was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
This was led by Johara H. Macabangkit , the SSC President who was also in charge of the over-all preparation and Mr. Alvin Rasonable who served as the master of ceremony of the program. The welcome remarks was given by our accountable and energetic Head of Student Affairs and Services, Mr. Dante B. Lacsi. He thanked everyone for a job well done. Right after the opening message, the officers from College of Computer Science and College of Education presented their intermission number. Games prepared by the officers followed and the children enjoyed a lot especially when the prizes were given to the winners.
New slippers, books and toys packed by the officers were given to the community before the program ended. Mrs. Mary Josephine Caumeran, the SSC adviser, delivered her closing remarks and thanksgiving message to everyone. At 5:00 in the afternoon, everyone wore a big smile in their faces as they started going home with their gifts from us. We were very happy and looked forward for another gift-giving activity in the near future.
After the outreach program, I’ve realized that people can search for their happiness, but me, I didn’t search it, I just enjoy what I am doing and that gives happiness to me. This activity also taught me a lot of good things, contentment with what I have, care for the people around me, and this makes me realize the importance of a friend in ups and downs of life. This also gives me the idea that even the little things you do for others have great impact in their lives.
